The exhibition Possible Worlds | Mundos Posibles Photography and Fiction in Mexican Contemporary Art features the work of nine contemporary Mexican photographers exploring the possibilities of imaginary worlds created by their lenses.

The exhibition is integrated by 42 works of a new generation of talented young artists such as Mauricio Alejo, Ricardo Alzati, Katya Braylovsky, Alex Dorfsman, Daniela Edburg, Rubén Gutiérrez, Kenia Nárez, Fernando Montiel and Damián Siqueiros. The work of these photographers is influenced by a whole new set of media such as film, literature, science fiction and electronic music. These inputs lets their work to break away from photojournalism and studio photography abundant in Mexico throughout the XX Century.

The exhibit was curated by the art historian Marisol Argüelles into five modules: Fables + Myths, Science + Fiction, Apocalypse, Ordinary Worlds and Erasure. These modules allow the visitor to explore and contextualize the varied paths taken by the photographers to create imagined, sometimes impossible new worlds.

This exhibition is organized by the Mexican Cultural Institute San Antonio with the support of the Consulate of Mexico in San Antonio and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Possible Worlds | Mundos Posibles opens at The Mexican Cultural Institute San Antonio on July 29 and will be on until October 2, 2016
